Looking to get into shape for the new year? Feel like you go to the gym and are unsure of what to do?
As a Planet Fitness member for the past several years, I have taken a liking to some particular exercises. I figured I’d share some with those who are unsure of what to do, or looking to incorporate some new exercises into their routines.
I will leave out obvious exercises such as bench press, curls, etc…and and fill you in on some you may not be aware of.
Dumbbell Pullover: Lie upper back perpendicular on bench. Flex hips slightly. Grasp one dumbbell from behind or from side with both hands under inner plate of dumbbell. Position over chest and keep elbows bent slightly throughout exercise.
Upright Rows: To perform the upright row begin with an overhand grip, and hands comfortably apart, let the weight hang directly in front of you. Lift the bar straight up, keeping the bar close to your body. Lift until your elbows and forearms are level with the ground. Lower the weight slowly to the starting point.
Calf Raises: Place object under toes to elevate above heels. Raise heels above toes & repeat up and down. Can be used with body weight, or incorporate dumbbells in each hand.
Lateral Raises: Raise upper arms to sides until elbows are shoulder height. Maintain elbows’ height above or equal to wrists. Lower and repeat.
Inclined Leg Raises: Raise legs by flexing hips and knees until hips are completely flexed. Return until hips and knees are extended. Repeat.
